The Iconic “Contra” Game Will Be Available on Android and iOS Next Month.

I’m sure you remember the classic run-and-gun game Contra if you were a fan of TV video games back in the day. Konami’s arcade-based title was an amazing title that you could enjoy playing with your loved ones or go on a solo adventure with. You can now play the game on your Android and iOS devices. Konami has collaborated with Tencent to make it available for mobile devices.

Contra is making a comeback on iOS and Android.

Konami, the game’s original developer and publisher, first collaborated with the Chinese conglomerate Tencent to create a mobile version of Contra in 2016. The game, dubbed Contra Returns, was created by Tencent’s TiMi Studios and released in China in 2017.

Konami plans to release the game in North America in the coming days. It will be the first Contra title released in the United States following the 2019 Contra: Rogue Corps and Contra: Anniversary Collection.

TiMi Studios, a Tencent subsidiary involved in the development of the upcoming Pokemon Unite title, polled its fans in July 2020 to see if they wanted Contra Returns to be released in the Western region. Following positive user feedback, the company has announced that the game will be released in the United States. You can watch the official promo video down below.

Contra Returns, as you can see, will be similar to its Chinese counterpart in that it will bring classic, arcade-like gameplay to your mobile device. Despite the addition of new characters, the game brings the powerful Contra background score and the iconic Contra heroes Bill Rizer and Lance Bean to an iOS or Android device near you.

I remember playing Contra with my brother on a daily basis when I was a kid. As you might expect, the game’s release for mobile devices will bring back a lot of fond memories.

Availability

The game is currently available for pre-order on iOS and is open for pre-registration on Android devices via the Google Play Store. Pre-registered players will also get special in-game rewards when the game goes live next month. It will launch in the North American region on July 26.
