WhatsApp wants to add a feature that requires two verification codes to ensure user security.

WhatsApp already has a lot of privacy-focused features in place, but there’s no harm in stepping up its efforts to keep users secure. WhatsApp is now working on providing a second verification code to make it safer to get into a WhatsApp account from a new phone. The following are the specifics.

WhatsApp “Double Verification Code” in the Works

WABetaInfo has shared a new report that hints at the development of the “Double Verification Code” feature, which will show up another step of verification code when you are trying to log into your WhatsApp account from another smartphone. This will be in addition to the existing one-step verification process for the same.

It is stated that after successfully entering the first verification code, you will be required to input a second 6-digit code that will be given to your phone number. A pop-up message will appear informing users of the second verification code. This is to make sure you’re the one trying to connect into WhatsApp and not a cybercriminal. Here’s a little peek at what to expect.

The feature was created in response to a recent WhatsApp scam in which users were duped into giving hackers access to their accounts by sharing the verification code. This extra layer of protection is intended to put an end to it. It also looks to be an intriguing concept.

There’s no information on when the double verification code will begin to appear for users. Because it is still under development, it may take some time to reach beta users and much longer to reach regular users. This new privacy function is planned to be available to both Android and iOS users.

In related news, WhatsApp is set to roll out more new capabilities for users, including enhanced message replies and multi-device support, the ability to modify a sent message, an undo option for deleted messages, and more. It’s unclear when all of these capabilities will be added to WhatsApp, but we’ll keep you updated as soon as we know. As a result, stay tuned!
