The telecom provider has disputed the incident after a cyber-security research company stated that call data records of some 20 million Vodafone Idea (Vi) customers were exposed and accessed by cyber-criminals.
According to a report by the cyber-security research firm CyberX9, 20.6 million postpaid Vi customers’ call records were exposed as a result of system flaws at the business.
According to the study, the information exposed included call time, call duration, place of origin, subscriber complete name, address, SMS details, and roaming information.
Vi refuted the assertion, claiming that there had been no data breach and that the news was “false and malicious.”
The business said that it was made aware of a “possible vulnerability in their billing communication,” which it “quickly addressed” and “assured there was no data breach.”
According to Vodafone Idea, audits are carried out to bolster the security infrastructure and “frequent inspections” are made.
The company’s assertion that they have performed a forensic audit, according to CyberX9, is ludicrous.
CyberX9 claims that for the past two years, millions of Vi customers’ call logs and other data have been exposed and have been accessed by hackers.
