In March 2022, WhatsApp banned over 1.8 million accounts in India.

India made it essential for social media businesses to provide a monthly user safety report following the adoption of the new Government IT Rules 2021 last year. Since then, WhatsApp has banned millions of Indian accounts for a variety of malicious activities such as frauds and harassment. In its most recent report, the Meta-owned messaging behemoth said that in March 2022, it blocked over 1.8 million users in India. Take a look at the specifics here.

More WhatsApp Accounts Banned in India

According to WhatsApp’s most recent User Safety Monthly Report, nearly 1.8 million accounts in India were banned for the whole month of March this year. This follows the February 2022 suspension of over 1.4 million accounts by the social messaging behemoth.

Accounts that do not follow the Meta-owned company’s regulations and guidelines have been subjected to harsh punishment. In April 2022, WhatsApp got 597 user complaints, according to reports. In March, 74 of the reported accounts were suspended by the firm.

“We’ve issued our report for the month of March 2022 in compliance with the IT Rules 2021.” This user-safety report includes information on user complaints and the actions taken by WhatsApp in response, as well as WhatsApp’s own preventative measures to combat abuse on our platform. In the month of March, WhatsApp banned almost 1.8 million accounts, according to the current Monthly Report,” a WhatsApp spokeswoman stated in a statement.

Apart from user reports, WhatsApp employs a variety of AI-based methods to identify questionable accounts, such as bot accounts, accounts linked to scams, and accounts that distribute false news, among other things. To assure customer safety on its platform, the business claims it has invested in “additional state-of-the-art technologies, data scientists and experts, and processes.”

So, if you’re a WhatsApp user, make sure your app is up to date and don’t disseminate bogus news or scam links on the network to avoid getting your account deleted. Despite reports that WhatsApp is developing a means for users to seek an account ban review, the feature is still unavailable on the site. On the other side, if you come across a questionable account in your conversation or someone spreading false information, you may report the account using the app.
