Three of India’s largest telecom companies, Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (VI), have all announced the rollout of 5G services. Although Airtel and Jio have identified a small number of locations that would receive the services initially, this implies that not all consumers will have access to the 5G network this year.
According to an announcement by Airtel, its 5G services will start to roll out on October 1 in 8 different locations. The few cities that would be able to use the 5G network in the initial launch were named by Sunil Mittal, CEO of Bharti Enterprises. He named four cities: Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, and Varanasi, although he hasn’t yet revealed the full list of the cities.
One must be close to an Airtel 5G tower in order to access the 5G network. The list of these towers’ locations has not yet been made public.
By 2023, all of the country, even the villages, will have access to Jio’s “genuine” 5G services, according to Reliance Industries Chief Mukesh Ambani. He added that because these cities were included in the initial rollout, they would have access to the 5G network by this year’s Diwali in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.
The chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, Kumar Mangalam Birla, revealed that Vodafone Idea will soon join Reliance and Jio in offering 5G networks in India. Given that 50% of its users are located in rural India, he claimed that VI has always been committed to giving its customers a smooth service.
