A new screen lock function will be available on WhatsApp Web. It’s one of several things WhatsApp is introducing to improve user privacy. It’s unclear whether WhatsApp Web’s screen lock activates every time a user switches tabs.
According to a recent report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp may be developing a brand-new privacy feature specifically for users of WhatsApp Web. Users can create a password to block access to the WhatsApp Web tab using this screen lock feature.
HOW WILL THE WHATSAPP WEB SCREEN LOCK FEATURE WORK?
Once the rollouts start, your desktop won’t automatically have the Whatsapp Web screen lock activated. Users will need to explicitly enable this optional feature, select a password of their choosing, and, of course, keep in mind to periodically change their passwords to be secure.
By scanning a QR code with the app on their cellphones to log in again, users may easily reset their passwords in the event that they forget the original one.
It’s not clear if the functionality would activate automatically when a user switches tabs or just when explicitly locked. However, once enabled, users may relax knowing that no unauthorized access will be made to their conversation.
WHATSAPP’S OTHER PRIVACY FEATURES
The Whatsapp Web screen lock function is one of several tools that Whatsapp has introduced to improve user privacy. Among these is the screen lock function on WhatsApp’s mobile interface, which enables users to restrict access to the app using a fingerprint or a numeric code.
Users may also now leave chat rooms in silence, guaranteeing a quiet exit without being followed up by nosy inquiries. In addition, users may choose whether others can screenshot their view-once messages and who can watch their status updates.
In order to reassure users of its end-to-end encryption, WhatsApp has also recently started displaying a privacy disclaimer during voice and video calls.
